Universal Free School Meals

Universal Free School Meals and other Free School Meal Entitlement

From September 2014, the Government agreed to fund all pupils in Reception, Years 1 and 2 for a daily school meal during term time. Pupils in Years 3 and 4 will have to pay the daily rate (£2.00 per day 2014/15), unless they qualify for free school meals as follows: if you are in receipt of one of the following: Child Tax Credit (with no working tax credit), Income Support, Income Based Jobseekers Allowance, Income Based Employment and Support Allowance, or Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit, then your child could be entitled Free School Meals. You would also be entitled to Pupil Premium funding. (See the ‘Pupil Premium’ link).

Registering for free school meals only takes a short time and can be done online (www.northumberland.gov.uk/fsm), by phone (0845 600 6400), or by post, and usually the Local Authority is able to check your eligibility electronically. Please speak to the school office if you require any further information.
